Review: I saw this movie with a kind of deliciously tender curiosity.It was overblown and exaggerated, as expected from the production of Baz Luhrmann. Leonardo DiCaprio made their own (old songs!) Gatsby And while retaining a sense of familiarity. The script was faithful adaptation, and even helped me to understand some of the themes of the novels more clearly. And although you would think hearing dubstep in the Jazz Age would be shocking, the soundtrack worked very well.But I love it. And his (mostly), Tobey Maguire fault.Gatsby appear so large in the original story, it's easy to forget about Nick. But it can be argued, and often this is Nick, Gatsby, who was the protagonist of the novel. Fitgeralds story told in the first person point of view of Nick, it's as good as the story of Nick, Gatsby is just as big as Nick showed way.Unfortunately, Maguire fell completely flat in the role of leader story. There was always so much happening and so much to absorb Dreamscape Luhrmann that Maguire seemed to get lost in it all. And? with him? so did the audience. Without a strong presence of Maguire, Nick reduced from having a role as an interpreter of events to be just another character (and quite forgettable at that). Luhrmann tried to keep narrative framework Knicks, leaving him to tell the story? first as a patient talk to your doctor in a sanatorium after a writer tries to explain her grief through prose. But these scenes came across (at best) so clumsy expository or (at worst) as monotonous Maguires take audiobook abridged version of The Great Gatsby.I wanted to love this movie. I really did. It has so many wonderful qualities. But without Nick (only one Toby) to help you understand, people and events, angry and half in love with him {}, and very sorry, I turned away.
